"Where'd mommy go??? I'm feeling so tapped. I'll just wait right here, for her to come back..."
These words are a glimpse into the nature of a dogs last thoughts at Rainbow Bridge when they are left to cross alone.
They're very smart, they know you can't cross with them, but if they spent their entire life following you, then this is likely what their last thoughts are if you walk out of the room.
Pets, our beloved companions, have their own final wishes as they approach the end of their lives. Known best to veterinarians, entrusted with the solemn task of easing the suffering of old and sick animals, this reflects the sentiment of veterinarians over many states, countries, and generations, and it's why they will normally suggest staying with them till the very end.
Veterinans everywhere over as many generations as we know, with heavy hearts acknowledge across the board that witnessing aged or ill pets desperately searching for their owners, longing for their presence, was the most difficult aspect of their career. Astonishingly, statistics reveal that a staggering 90% of pet owners choose not to be present in the room when their faithful companion takes their last breath.
It seems that people choose to turn away, to shield themselves from the pain of goodbye. But what they fail to understand is that it is in those final moments that their pets need them the most.
Veterinarians often implore owners to stand by their loyal friends until the very end, to be a comforting presence in their time of greatest need. Yes, it is an inevitable part of life that our pets will pass before us, but we must never forget that we were the center of their universe. Perhaps they were only a part of our lives, but they were, and always will be, a cherished part of our family. No matter how heart-wrenching it may be, we cannot abandon them in their final moments.
Can you imagine the distress of a pet, confined to a room unknown to them, surrounded by unfamiliar faces, desperately searching for their beloved human? Veterinarians witness this heartbreak far too often.
These loyal creatures cannot comprehend why their owners have left them in their most vulnerable moments. They yearn for their presence, their touch, their soothing words. The vets do their utmost to provide comfort, but they are strangers to these animals. We cannot let fear and pain inhibit our ability to be there for them.
Pause for a moment and reflect upon the immense love and unwavering loyalty our pets have shown us throughout their lives. They have shared our joy, lifted our spirits, and provided endless comfort. Now, in their time of need, can we summon the strength to reciprocate that unwavering love? Let us not allow them to meet their untimely end in the presence of strangers, in a place that feels foreign and uncomfortable to them.
We must find the courage to endure the pain of their departure, for the sake of their well-being. They deserve our presence, our gentle touch, and our comforting words during their final moments. Let us not be cowards, shielded by our own anguish. Instead, let us come together, united by our love for these incredible creatures, and support them until the very end.
Take a moment to visualize those pleading eyes, searching for solace, understanding, and the reassurance that they are not alone. This image should be more than enough to inspire us to stay by their side, to provide the gentlest of touches, and to convey our eternal gratitude for the immeasurable happiness they have brought into our lives.
So, let us remember, my friends, to be there for our pets, unwavering in our commitment, until they cross the rainbow bridge. Let us honor their unwavering loyalty and love by being the source of comfort they so desperately need. We owe it to them to remain present until their very last breath, to ensure their final moments are bathed in the love they bestowed upon us throughout their all-too-brief lives. Together, let us be the guardians of their precious souls, wherever their journey leads them. 🐾🐾🐾

Heart breaking just to imagine how many have to endure cross over alone, when you consider they have lived every moment of their lives focused on pleasing us. Brings tears to my eyes just thinking about it.
We lost our 14 year old Deer head Chihuahua Roodie to a heart attack as I was carrying her to the vet office from the car. She got to see us last. Could not think of leaving her alone no matter what. She always gave us unconditional love.
My last two elderly deer head chihuahuas I had pass at her me. It was hard for me but much better for them. They felt safe & protected & passed lying next to me❤️🐾🐾❤️
